Athena widely discussed at the SPIE

From 30 June till 1 July 2016, the Athena observatory is going to be widely discussed at the SPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation symposium in Edinburgh. This conference is the leading year event for developers of ground- and space-based telescopes, their supporting technologies, and the latest instrumentation. Engineers, scientists and industry are coming together at a very exciting time in the development of these tools of discovery.

The conference includes three dedicated sessions to Athena within the general theme of the conference “Space Telescopes and Instrumentation 2016: Ultraviolet to Gamma Ray”. The first specific session (Athena I) starts with a general presentation about Athena by Prof. Kirpal Nandra (Lead of the Athena Science Study Team) and it is followed by several talks about the optics of the telescope. Session II and III (Athena II and III) are dedicated to the two instruments on board Athena, the Wide Field Imager (WFI) and the X-ray Integral Field Unit (X-IFU) respectively.

In total 16 talks and 30 posters related with the project are going to be landed in Edinburgh! The complete program of “Space Telescopes and Instrumentation 2016: Ultraviolet to Gamma Ray” session can be found here.
