NewAthena X-ray Advances series: webinar by Labani Mallick

Labani Mallick (U. Manitoba and CITA, U. Toronto) will give the webinar on February 26th  (17-18 CET) entitled: Constraining Disk-to-Corona Power Transfer Fraction, Soft X-ray Excess Origin, and Black Hole Spin Population of Type-1 AGN across Mass Scales.

Abstract: Unveiling the nature of the accretion disk, its interplay with the X-ray corona, and assessing black hole spin demographics are some open challenges in astrophysics. To address these issues, we systematically modeled broadband XMM-Newton+NuSTAR spectra of a sample of Type-1 active galactic nuclei (AGN) across mass scales. In this talk, I will present the key results derived from our spectral modeling and highlight how NewAthena can advance the scope of this study in multiple ways. I will discuss the implications of the relativistic disk reflection and warm Comptonization for the origin of soft X-ray excess, predictions of the standard alpha-disk model and how we can compute the disk-to-corona power transfer fraction in accreting objects. I will also discuss how detailed measurements of the reflected X-rays from the accretion disk can be used to probe the innermost regions of accretion flow just outside the event horizon and determine one of the fundamental parameters, the spin of the central black hole across mass scales in AGN.
