eROSITA view of the WHIM emission in cosmic filaments

On 22 April 2025 (14:00-15:00 CET), Xiaoyuan Zhang (Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics), will give the webinar entitled: eROSITA view of the WHIM emission in cosmic filaments.

Abstract: The eROSITA All-Sky Survey is the deepest wide field X-ray survey providing an excellent opportunity to search for the emission from warm-hot intergalactic medium. Recently, we successfully detected a 5.4-sigma emission signal from the WHIM over a 2300 square-degree footprint using the eRASS:4 data. Further analysis suggests that the detected WHIM emission originates from the a high density species with a baryon density contrast of 80 and a representative temperature of 10^6.8 K. In this talk, I will cover the analysis details and prospects for future studies in an era of high spectroscopic resolution.
