Primer seminario de avances en rayos X con Athena: seminarios web sobre ciencia de ASST y ACO

First webinar of the “Athena X-ray Advances: ASST & ACO Science Webinars”

The “Athena X-ray Advances: ASST & ACO Science Webinars” start next Monday 31st of January at 15 CET with a seminar by Hendrik van Eerten, on revealing the physics of multi-messenger events using X-ray observations.

In this webinar, Hendrik "will discuss multi-messenger modelling of a number of transient phenomena linked to (flaring) blazars, gamma-ray bursts and their afterglows. Thanks to direct detections of gravitational waves from neutron star mergers and of cosmic neutrinos linked to transients, we have now moved into a multi-messenger era in high-energy transients astrophysics. What is especially interesting is what these observations tell us about how to interpret light signatures from transients and vice-versa. And even though our view of the electromagnetic spectrum keeps expanding, with growing observational capabilities both at the very long wavelength end and at the TeV range and beyond, X-rays remain quite well positioned to make a significant difference to our understanding: among other things, X-rays are able to teach us a lot about the presence of accelerated protons and other aspects of shock-acceleration in relativistic shocks, the imprint of jet launching and propagation and the nature of the engines powering transients".
