Athena X-ray Advances series: webinar by Mauro Dadina
The next webinar of the “Athena X-ray Advances: Science Webinars” is forseen on the 3rd of July at 15 CEST. Mauro Dadina (INAF OAS-Bologna) will give the webinar entitled: A new era for the study of UFOs in AGNs.
Abstract: The study of Ultra Fast Outflows (UFOs) in Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) spans two decades. It is closely connected to the story of the two X-ray observatories that, in 2003, enabled their discovery: Chandra and XMM-Newton. Today, the launch of XRISM is opening a new era to study these outflows. Analyzing the high-energy resolution X-ray spectra from XRISM/Resolve will likely allow us to test the scenarios built to explain the nature of UFOs as observed with CCD-like X-ray detectors.
In this webinar, I will review these twenty years of study of these outflows, highlighting some milestones in X-rays and introducing how the Athena/X-IFU will further our understanding of UFOs - knowing that this could be a risky endeavour without the insights from XRISM/Resolve results!
