From 19th to 21st of February, the Santander 2019: Athena SIXTE workshop has been held at the headquarters of the Athena Community Office at the Instituto de Física de Cantabria. More than twenty European researchers and PhD students have learnt how to use the Simulation of X-ray Telescopes (SIXTE) software to produce simulations of X-ray observations for the Athena mission.

The workshop, conducted by the SIXTE team, introduced the participants to the design of SIXTE and was divided into several tutorials to learn how to run simulations for point sources, extended sources, multiple sources and even including source variability. The participants also learnt about simulating Transition Edge Sensors (TES) and reconstructing the energy of each individual photon using Tessim and SIRENA packages.

The workshop presentations will be made available for the community in the coming days.
