The scientific conference “Supermassive Black Holes: Environment and Evolution” was held on 19-22 June 2019 at Corfu, Greece. This conference aimed to review and discuss the most recent multi-wavelength observations of supermassive black holes and compare them with simulations and observations. The exciting discovery space that opens with eROSITA, XRISM and Athena was a primary part of the meeting.

There were several presentations relevant to the Athena science including among others:

• Future SMBH Surveys, by Andrea Comastri.
• The first SMBHs Indications from models, by Stergios Amarantidis.
• The Universe Missing Mass Physics, Metallicity and Kinematics, by F. Nicastro.
