Caption: This is a 3D model of the X-IFU aperture cylinder that is being developed at the Liège Space Center. The aperture cylinder provides the necessary optical aperture through the thermal shields of the cryostat. It supports ultra-thin Aluminium entrance filters and protects them from molecular contamination. It also contributes to the thermal insulation and electromagnetic compatibility shielding of the cryogenic core of the instrument.
