UV line-driven disc wind as the origin of ultrafast outflows in AGN

UV line-driven disc wind as the origin of ultrafast outflows in AGN, by Misaki Mizumoto

By Misaki Mizumoto.

This paper is on UltraFast Outflows (UFO), which are very fast wind launched from the vicinity of supermassive black holes at the centre of galaxies. UFO carries a lot of kinetic power from black holes to galaxies, which may affect the physical/chemical evolution of galaxies.

We show in this paper that Athena's great energy resolution and effective area can resolve complex spectral features produced by UFO, which will enable us to study its nature (e.g., geometry and kinetic power) quantitatively. Athena will pave the way for physical predictions how the black hole contributes to the galaxy evolution in a cosmological situation.
